I sing for joy at the works of Your hands." Psalms 92:4
As the first month of the new year draws to a close, I found myself amazed at how little I have laughed. So much sorrow has bombarded our world in these past few months: chilling murders in Connecticut; senseless sectarian violence in the Middle East; torture in Algeria; war and destruction in Mali; a brutal rape in India.
I've missed silliness, giggles and smiles. I've taken myself and this sad world too seriously.
The psalmist urges us to find gladness in the world around us: each day's sunshine; each warm breeze; each bird's song. The gentle rain. The fierce snow. A puppy's cold nose or a toddler's sloppy embrace. God's works, His gifts to us, should make us smile. I'm determined that next month won't be a repeat of this one. I'm determined to unwrap as many of God's gifts as I can find. I hope you will, too.
